About the project

Video Art Network Lagos (VAN, Lagos) is an independent non-profit organisation set up by artist/curator Jude Anogwih, artist Emeka Ogboh and cultural producer Oyindamola Fakeye. It promotes new media art activities. It hosts screenings and exhibitions and develops educational and public programmes that promote an awareness of new media art in Nigeria. Video Art Network have successfully produced two international video art festivals in partnership with Where Dreams Cross (Sweden), Unbound Studio (India) and Yo Video (Indonesia) and are working toward the 2015/2016 programme. We have successfully run video based workshops at the University of Nsukka, Nigeria; Nubuke Foundation, Accra, Ghana and University of Science and Technology, Khartoum, Sudan. VAN have recently developed a course programme on experimental media art at the Department of Creative Arts, University of Lagos, Nigeria and are currently developing video based courses and workshops for other higher and further education institutions in Nigeria. The platform is building on its international networks and capabilities by partnering with institutions that promote new media art. Our local audience involves a mix of art students, artists and art appreciators, while internationally we have contributed to the dialogue on African and Nigerian new media art. Our 2015—2016 programme involves a workshop and presentation in collaboration with Videonale. TVC will be a collaboration between Fresh Milk, Barbados and RM, New Zealand to increase audience experience in work from the three territories scheduled for summer 2015. Following a successful collaboration with the David Dale Gallery in Glasgow 2014, VAN Lagos are developing an exhibition featuring Scottish video artists to be screened in Lagos.
